Custom Enclosures FFF
"Lighter, more integrated, more efficient – a new test box for end-of-line inspection."
When components become too heavy, too expensive, or too complex in everyday manufacturing, 3D printing offers room for new solutions.
For a testing device in end-of-line control, we developed an enclosure that combines functionality, ergonomics, and cost-effectiveness.
The component, previously milled from aluminum, was complex to manufacture, heavy, and made up of many individual parts. In the new FFF design, the construction was completely revised: reduced wall thicknesses, integrated mounts, and functional struts ensure stability with significantly less weight.
The number of components could be reduced to just two main components – housing and lid. Optionally, unused openings can be closed with integrated plugs.
For improved ergonomics and safety in daily use, recessed grips, stiffened rib structures and directly printed labels for terminal blocks and phase markings have been integrated. This significantly simplifies assembly and maintenance, while simultaneously preventing short circuits through optimized spacing and insulation zones.
The result: a robust, functionally sophisticated, and assembly-friendly test box – FFF-printed, economically produced, and tailored for real-world industrial use.
A project that demonstrates how additive lightweight design and practical construction go hand in hand.
